Nigeria striker and 2015 Complete Sports Player of the Year, Odion Ighalo, has been named the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for December.
Also Watford coach Quique Sanchez Flores has been rewarded for the Hornets’ remarkable form in December by winning the Premier League manager of the month award.
Flores’ side took 10 points from five fixtures in the final month of 2015, including victories over Norwich, Sunderland and Liverpool.
Ighalo, who scored an impressive 29 goals in 2015, including 13 in the Premier League in his debut top-flight season, was the standout player for the promoted side, netting five times, including a brace in the 3-0 win over Liverpool at Vicarage Road.
A draw at Chelsea followed four wins in a row including the victory at Aston Villa at the end of November, before Watford finished the year with a last-ditch loss at home to Spurs.
Ighalo beat a very strong field to win the prestigious award as the other nominees were Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, Tottenham’s Dele Alli, Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic.
Watford are 11 points clear of Sunderland who occupy the final relegation place, and just seven points behind Spurs who sit fourth.
Flores, Ighalo and the rest of the Watford squad will travel to relegation-threatened Swansea on Monday evening looking to get back to winning ways after starting 2016 with defeats.
