Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho made his senior national team debut while Obafemi Martins made his return to the team as the Super Eagles held Swaziland to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the 2018 World Cup qualifieron Friday.
The game which was played in Lobamba, was held up in the early minutes following a clash of heads between Moses Simon and a Swaziland player.
In the 16th minute, Ahmed Musa had first effort but his strike went way off target.
The hosts' keeper was called to action in the 29th minute but he made a double save first off an Ogenyi Onazi free-kick before stopping a strike from Musa.
On 33 minutes, Godefrey Oboabona almost gifted Swaziland with a chance after a poor pass but the hosts failed to capitalize.
Prior to the second half, Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh introduced Rabiu Ibrahim for the ineffective Sylvester Igboun.
The Eagles almost shot into the lead in the 46th minute following a mistake from a Swaziland defender but Odion Ighalo's effort went over the bar.
Swaziland responded with an attack of their own in the 47th minute after a fine interchange of play but the effort fail to hit target.
Three minutes later, a left-foot strike from a Swaziland player went inches off target.
Onazi almost put the Eagles 1-0 ahead from a free-kick but his effort came off the upright.
On 62 minutes, Ikeme came to the Eagles rescue after blocking a goal bound shot.
And in the 66th and 71st minutes, the duo of Iheanacho and Martins replaced Ibrahim and Mikel to add more attacking bite for the Eagles.
Then in the 91st minute, Efe Ambrose had the Eagles last chance from a corner kick but his header went over the bar.
The Eagles will welcome Swaziland on Tuesday, 17 November in Port Harcourt.
