–Nigerian youngster delighted to win maiden City trophy
In-form Nigeria youth international Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his delight at scoring the lone winner for the Patrick Vieira-coached Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad as they defeated a young FC Porto side 1:0 on Friday night.
The victory at the Etihad Campus saw the English team lift the maiden International Premier League Cup.
Iheanacho, who is expected to star in Nigeria’s bid for the U-20 World Cup title from later this month, capitalised on a poor backpass to round the Porto goalkeeper and score in the fifth minute.
It was his third strike since returning from long-term injury recently.
‘’I feel great, it was a good experience playing in the Premier Cup for the first time and I scored the only goal that won the trophy. So I thank God Almighty for that.” Iheanacho said on City’s official website.
He added about the goal: “It was good. At first I wanted to place the ball then I realised that the defender behind me was a little bit far so I kept my cool, took a touch then finished.”
The 18-year-old, who is expected to join the Flying Eagles at their pre-World Cup camp in Nurnberg later this month, was subbed in the 62nd minute.
