Iheanacho Scores As Super Eagles Hold Senegal

By James Agberebi:

The Super Eagles of Nigeria came from a goal down to hold Senegal to a 1-1 draw in Thursday's friendly at The Hive stadium, London, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Moussa Sow of Fenerbahce gave Senegal the lead early in the second half before Kelechi Iheanacho equalised from the penalty spot with less than 10 minutes left to play.

The draw means Gernot Rohr is yet to taste defeat in four games in charge of the Eagles.

Also the game saw the duo of Isaac Success and Olanrewaju Kayode make their debuts for the Super Eagles.

They will take on Burkina Faso on Monday in their second friendly at The Hive in preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifiers.

Senegal started the stronger in the early part of the game but the Eagles gradually found their rhythm and started creating chances.

The Eagles were forced into an early change in the 24th minute following an injury to Ogenyi Onazi who was then replaced by John Ogu.

The Eagles continued to press for the opening goal but Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa missed very good chances.

Just like they did in the early part of the first half, Senegal were on top from the start of the second half and were rewarded on 54 minutes through Moussa Sow who finished off Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye's right wing cross.

On the hour mark, the Eagles made two changes with Oghenekaro Etebo and Isaac Success replacing Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon.

Senegal's goal scorer sustained a hamstring injury and was replaced by Diedhiou Famara.

The Eagles made their fourth substitution with Olanrewaju Kayode replacing Musa.

In the 82nd minute, the Eagles got back on level terms through Iheanacho who converted from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Senegal's keeper Pape Seydou. It was 20-year-old Manchester City star's fifth goal in eight senior Nigeria matches.

The Eagles went in search of the winner in the closing stages of the game but Kayode's header from 10 yards off Iheanacho's free-kick narrowly missed the target.
