Nigerian teen star Kelechi Iheanacho scored in his first start of the season for Manchester City who defeated Crystal Palace 5-1 at the Ethiad stadium in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup win.
The former youth international who has made six substitute appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in the Premier League this season finished off a perfect cut-back from Belgian play-maker Kevin De Bruyne in the 59th minute of the encounter.
The 18 year old had earlier provided a sublime pass for De Bruyne to double City’s lead before half-time.
After the encounter, Iheanacho was voted the man of the match by City fans according to a tweet on the club’s official website.
“Man of The Match: You voted for @67Kelechi! Thanks for taking part. #cityvpalace #mcfc,” the tweet reads.
In Germany, Werder Bremen forward Anthony Ujah continued his goal-scoring form against his former teams on Wednesday when he scored against FC Cologne in the German DFB Pokal Cup at the Wesser Stadium.
The 25-year-old turned his marker before rifling home a scotcher in the 23rd minute of the encounter.
Ujah who scored a brace against Mainz in the Bundesliga at the weekend has now scored twice in the competition to take his goal tally to six in all competitions in 12 games.
In Ukraine, Michael Babatunde came off the substitutes’ bench to score his second goal of the season for Dnipro who advanced to the next round of the Ukrainian Cup with a 3-2 win at the expence of Olimpik Donetsk.
The Nigerian winger came on for Bruno Vilela Gama at half-time and restored parity for his side in the 88th minute before Roman Zozulya grabbed the match winner in the stoppage time of the encounter to qualify to the next round 5-2 on aggregate.
In Turkey, Godfrey Oboabona played for the entire duration of Rizespor’s goalless draw away to Kayserispor who featured Yakubu Aiyegbeni for the last seven minutes at the Kadir Has Sehir stadium.
