Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has used his Twitter account to thank every individual who donated and took part in the cause to raise funds for the cure of leukaemia, which is a form of blood cancer, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ikeme, who is currently undergoing treatment after he was diagnoed with acute leukaemia last month is happy that so much money has been raised.
So far the sum of 71,337 have been donated to the cause, championed by the Cure Leukaemia charity.
He wrote via his official handle: "Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and taken part in raising money for @CureLeukaemia .It's going to a great cause."
"The money donated is helping go towards expanding the haematology centre at the QE bham where more patients will be able to be treated."
His club, Wolverhampton Wanderers, were delighted with the achievement and are still expecting more.
"Absolutely phenomenal total so far – and still more to come. A huge well done to all involved raising vital funds for @CureLeukaemia ," the club said on their Twitter account.
