Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Former Super Falcons and Enyimba head coach, Kadiri Ikhana, has backed Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to secure a World Cup ticket, while commending the German for selecting the best Nigerian players abroad for the World Cup qualifier against the Fennecs of Algeria billed for Uyo on November 12.
Ikhana who was in Abuja for the CAF B coaching license course told Complete Sports that Rohr has done well so far in his invitation of players and their usage for matches, adding that the man knows what he wants and is getting maximum support from the Nigeria Football Federation.
"Nobody can fault this list of 24 players Rohr has invited," Ikhana, who led Enyimba to their first CAF Champions League title in 2003, said.
"He is right to leave out home-based players because our league is presently on break. He has picked our best players scattered all over Europe for the vital encounter.
"Rohr looks like a coach who wants to achieve and all we owe him is total support to qualify Nigeria for the 2018 World Cup in Russia."
On how to deal with the Algerians in Uyo, Ikhana said the. Super Eagles must be on the front foot from kick-off to check the Fennecs attack that is very slick and fast, adding that marking out any particular player will not be the best but that the Eagles must put them under pressure to win.
He expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will qualify for the World Cup if they do not drop any more points at home after the win in Zambia, stressing that it will be difficult for either Algeria or Cameroon to get a result in Zambia.
