Ikhana Hails Enyimba’s SpirIt In Champions League Match

Enyimba manager, Kadiri Ikhana says he’s pleased with the level of fighting spirit exhibited by his charges in Sunday’s 3-0 whitewash of Benin Republic foes, Buffles Borgou in the CAF Champions League first leg preliminary round game in Aba.

“I must commend the players for holding their ground till the end. That’s the spirit and they fought like true elephants”, Ikhana told Complete Sports after the game.

After a 1-0 first half lead, Enyimba threw away several scoring chances with Nzube Anaezemba throwing away a 78th minute penalty with scores still at 1-0. That highened tension amongst the fans as minutes ticked away.

“If we could miss a penalty kick with 12 minutes to full time, that tells a lot of the anxiety among the spectators but the players stuck to our game plan and I’m happy it paid off”.

Under 23 National Team ace, Kingsley Sokari doubled Enyimba’s advantage five minutes later to bring the stadium back to live. Then on the dot of 90 minutes, Peter Onyekachi put the icing on the cake with the third and final goal of the night.

“It shows that hard work pays. When you work hard, remain focused and fight for each other, victory will come. No game is won or lost until the final whistle and that showed today and I commend the players and fans who kept on supporting and cheering”, Ikhana added.
