Ikhana: Women’s Football League Needs Attention

–Ex-Falcons coach praises team for the AWC feat

Former Super Falcons coach Kadiri Ikhana has expressed happiness over the performance of the senior national team at the just concluded African Women’s Championship held in Namibia, saying the feat should be used to improve women’s football in the country.

Ikhana who is presently with Enyimba FC of Aba said the performance of the team in Namibia has shown the talents Nigeria is blessed with, saying there is a need for the Nigeria Football Federation to work on the league.

“I am happy with the performance of the players and I must congratulate them and the coaches for living up to the promise they made before the tournament. It is not easy but these ladies have done it and they deserve our commendation,” says Ikhana.

“Having said that, I think this is the time for the Nigeria Football Federation to sit down and think of how to develop women’s football league in the country, there are lots of young players in that category that are doing well now and I don’t think we should allow the talent to waste.

The Super Falcons defeated Cameroun 2-0 in the final of the 2014 African Women’s Championship held in Namibia on Saturday as they have also qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup holding next year in Canada.
