Ikpeba: Keshi Has Lost It

Ikpeba: Keshi Has Lost It

–Blasts Big Boss for inviting unknown players to national team

Former Nigeria forward Victor Ikpeba has lashed out at coach Stephen Keshi over his decision to call up ‘rookies’ for the must-win pair of 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan this month.

The Super Eagles, reigning African champions, could miss out on defending their title in Morocco if they fail to win both matches after starting on a wrong footing last month.

Nigeria lost 3-2 to Congo in Calabar before pulling a listless goalless draw in Cape Town against South Africa and sit third on the table with a single point out of a possible six.

While the out-of-contract Keshi insists he is still building a good squad by handing fresh call ups to several new players, Ikpeba has raised the alarm over the possibility of the country missing out on qualifying due to the Big Boss’ self-serving posturing.

As part of his 24-man squad for the double-header against Sudan, Keshi called up Aaron Samuel of Guangzhou R&F in China, Emmanuel Sunday on SV ScholzGrodig, Austria, Anyora Ugonna of Haugesund FC, Norway and Hope Akpan of Reading FC, England. The 52-year-old has ignored more experienced campaigners Ikechukwu Uche of Villareal, Obafemi Martins of Seattle Sounders and new kid on the block Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City.

“For how long will Keshi build the Eagles,” Ikpeba who won the African Player of the Year award in 1997 asked in a Vanguard interview.

“He has been building this team since 2012 and still wants to continue building in 2014. No. What type of builder is he? His success in South Africa where he won the Nations Cup was a collective effort.

I wonders that Keshi is building team since 2012 and still yet he didn’t yet having a standing team for Nigerian to boast of, for how long Keshi will build team? Keshi is a joker by saying he his building team all time, Keshi likes invited players who he can collect “Eguje” from their hands or players that he can sell to Europe, he didn’t know anything about coaching job, he just fortunate won nation cup with collective effort as Ikpeba said, Keshi should go and let Siasia back to his job, Siasia boys play good game during his time, it was just that some people in the Glass house doesn’t like him that was why they rebelled against him by using the people like Osase and Mikel to play worst during our last game against Guinea in order to loose his job by then which everyone knows that, therefore New NFF should call Siasia back…. Up Naija.. Up Eagles… Up Nff.. Up Siasia..

Keshi should have been sacked immediately after the World Cup in brazil. No couch survives in sentiment and divide and rule amidst the players. Moreso Keshi is a local champion, he doesn’t have the technical-know-how of today to take the Eagles to the level let’s be frank to ourselves. We all saw his inefficiency at Brazil. So I call on the new NFF to sack him now and get us a better coach for us now!

Ikpeba every team continues to improve no matter how good the team is. It looks like it’s Ikpeba that has lost his mind just because he wants to be seen or had, a rebuilding cannot win AFCON , a team that is rebuilding cannot qualify for the World Cup, and a team that is rebuilding cannot make it to the round of 16 when countries with solid traditions like Spain, England, Italy and Ghana even Ivory Coast could not make it . Ikpeba talks too much and this days he sounds like a broken record, how can you call a team with core players like ENyeama, Moses, Emenike, Oboabona , Mikel, Echiejiele, Efe, Musa, Omeruo, Oshaniwa, Ejide and Onazi a rebuilding team? The same players that plays every time are still on the team, every now and then the coach calls up 3 or 4 new players and ignorant Nigerians calls it rebuilding, so Keshi should stop inviting new players? They should stop Ikpeba for talking anymore before he hurts himself, all he wants is for Keshi to play his kind of players, and Mr Ikpeba if you want that to happen go and get your coaching certificate.

    • please can tell the first eleven of super eagle presently after 2 years that is his concern he didn’t abusing keshi’s office.

@Kola,us, please forget Ikpeba, i am sure he drank Sapele water, i know when his eyes clears, he will apologize to Keshi. Didn’t Westernhoff invited Chidi Nwanu and Emenalo to USA 94 world cup? Should we call that rebuilding also? you need some players to fortified. If it’s because of Uche they should forget it, he will not play under Keshi, may be when Keshi is gone then another coach could invite him, simple.

No wonder Nigeria football is in a sorry state. This is because people like Victor Ikpeba are members of its technical committee. Imagine what Keshi should have been passing through for past three years. Imagine what Keshi has achieved in the mist of people like Ikpeba in the football house. Imagine what he would have achieved if NFF is peopled with a right thinking persons.
@Samuel you are just fooling yourself by your comments. Nigerians know Siasia well – he is not a coach and if he is then what has he been doing since he left super eagles years ago? He has nothing to offer anymore as a coach.

What is wrong Ikpeba? instead of passing blame to Keshi why not give support to Keshi. We all know that coaching the super Eagles of Nigeria is not an easy task yet we are continue to distract the Keshi’s attention away from vital matches coming up. I bet you if you are on the seat as same as Keshi your flop will be massive.

If Keshi had invited players of low pedigree let him explain to us why such is happening instead of asking him for his head. However, Babatunde was in the world cup and had good display of footbal character of the football pitch compare to mighty Mikel Obi we all are shouting daily. part of the problem we have in the midfield is Mikel playing too big with low football character displayed. we need player who are ready to give all it takes to win and demonstrate a true Nigeria football character.

To be candid, we all need to take Keshi up in term of support and calling him to order hiddenly and not publicly.

Pls, don’t listing to Ikpeba, he is speaking out of jealousy. Keshi, has done a lot for Nigeria whether Ikpeba likes or not he is our coach and the only one we like to coach the Super Eagles. Even the great Monrio is still building Chelse from matches to matches.

  • Everybody is talking, talk is cheap anyway. All these brainless ex-footballers talk before they use their heads. Ikpeba has forgotten so soon where we were three years ago when we could not even win common WAFU we hosted. Keshi has given even fools something to talk about.

Ikepba is spot on. How long does it take to build a team? When you destroy the nucleus of what you have built, you are wasting your time. You cant continue to use the National team as a rehabilitation camp for bench warmers at the expense of guys who are playing week in week out.

Ikpeba or wat ever ur name is get lost n stop sayin mumbo jumbo against big boss keshi.. all the Pro Keshi supporters dont seem to get it.

    @leonard, Marsh, @Kola,us, @chuks, @Bello Abdul-Rahman,

You guys are getting to sentimental in your support for Keshi. Yes Keshi won the African Cup and we respect him for that. That AFCON victory is almost 2 years ago. Nigeria has won only 1 out of 12 since November 2013. Our only win against Bosnia was a controversial win. Nigeria has no suitable replacement or goal scorer outside of Emenike(Even he has stopped scoring). Nigeria lacks creativity in Midfield. The defense is not solid and too many lapses.

A coach should be judged by what he is doing today and not 12 months ago or 2 years ago. The players Keshi invited do not have the quality to solve the problems of the super eagles. Any objective observer knows these players dont have the quality. I am suprised you guys keeps blindly supporting Keshi. Even the new NFF boss has complained about the invitation of a new player from China. Pannick also stated that Keshi needs help if he is to continue as coach. This shows Keshi currently lacks what it takes to run the team today.

I love Keshi but he is taking Nigeria in the wrong direction. This is common sense.

  • @soccerinnigeria,
My own problem is Ikpeba’s comments on building, I quite agreed with you on the present status of Keshi, how could an ex footballer, member of NFA technical crew be castigating a coach for inviting two or three rookies into the team to got to the round of sixteen in the last WC, building of a team is a continuous thing, the problem is that some members have their preferred players once they are not invited the coach must out.

  • A player from China, for real? Off all places!
