Ikpeba Salutes Super Eagles’ Resilience In Win Over Poland

Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba has hailed the gritty performance of the Super Eagles in Friday night’s 1-0 win over home side Poland at the Stadion Miejski in Wrocław.

Victor Moses won a penalty and dusted himself up in the 61st minute to give Nigeria a win in their first preparatory game ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Ikpeba, 1997 African Footballer of the Year, wrote on his verified Twitter handle:

“Congratulations Super Eagles. Against a formidable Polish side, the boys gave their all to win.”

The Super Eagles then held on for the win despite mounting pressure from Poland until the final minutes of the encounter.

Nigeria will face Serbia on Tuesday in London in continuation of their build-up to the World Cup.

    Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The lads did very well. God,’THE CAT’ and Joel Obi. The duo were very focused and understanding. We need to step up in some areas. God bless Nigeria!

Well done guys, Joel Obi played excellently well and can be a starter in d World Cup, d only person that spoilt my day was musa, rohr should not take him to d World Cup, I prefer junior ajayi in his place

  • We still need a potent #9.
I don’t know but we surely need another #9

Sale scored a goal today against Portugal, Ronaldo relied with two goals after 92 mins of play. Two goals in injury time!
    Wooooooooooo
We Just need a finisher who can score goals.
Should we try Osime? Even though he is not getting playing time at club level?
    Who can spearhead SE attack?

  • The lads did very well. Good.’THE CAT’,Uzoho and Joel Obi were focused and understanding. The duo were very focused and understanding. We need to step up in some areas. God bless Nigeria!

I wonder how people could say the game I watched today was fantastic…Na so we go take win world cup…no good pass, no concentration…work done is equal to zero.I am not deceived by the scoreline

Its not done over night .The technical crew is still working .Its work in progress .

  • We need an experience goal keeper, there was no coordination and d midfield lacked creativity.

I agree with you. We may not depend on Uzoho on a big occasion like the world cup. He was shaky at the start of the game. He tried based on his level of experience and age. But sincerely, we need a goalkeeper and urgently too. Nobody should mention Ahmed Musa in a world cup list. Ighalo should be given another chance to fight for a chance. If he fails, pls replace him.More of the guys on the bench should be utilized for the next match against Serbia. General performance of the team was FAIR enough for a team preparing for world coup.

  • nice tactics, good game spirit and high resilience but its obvious we need improvement in the attack. question mark for Musa,IGhalo and maybe kelechi ihneacho. its obvious we need new blood sharp attackers. we need a good no9 and improve on our attack. did anyone notice our shot on target is zero in this match against Poland ? pls RoHr sacrifice Musa & ighalo for new sharp forwards if u must.

Most Nigerian football fans are too emotional and naive. Anytime we win a match, no matter how ugly we play, we seem easily carried away, even a friendly match. Some wrong decisions by the ref gave us d day. We were so blunt and disorganized from midfield to attack. We hardly kept possession and relied heavily on Moses’ direct runs an creativity to conjure half chances. The entire team had no answer to Poland’s crisp passes and pace. Lewan hit the post, Balogun cleared from inside the net; Moses’ penalty was at best a gift. Everything just worked for us by a dint of luck. Rohr should take a holistic view of the team before the WC, bocs we can’t always rely on luck. We’re not ready yet.

Nigeria needs to be creative at the middle and also get a potent Central Forward( No.9). There was no creativity which made the team to struggle for goals except for the brilliance of Victor Moses that won that game . There is lot to be done before the mundial in Russia . Austin Ejide should be called and tried for proper preparation in that goalkeeping department .

  • we need the Nigerian striker Dessers or whatever he is called or some good and aggressive striker at this level. Please Rhor work like a coach.Learn from the crisp play exhibited by the polish and give us some robust play with a bit of aggression finesse in display…Please coach show us your quality. There were a lot of selfish play last night.Ball control were zero.,crisp passes and ball possession were not defined.Fouls in and around vital area were rampant.Team work was lacking, use of space was lacking as well. The hunger was good but the coach has to work now and stop analyzing game like a guest on a TV program…

  • pls it is a friendly match. let us be patient. Even the polish did not play better. Besides they just started training on Tuesdays. you can’t always be at your best all the time in football but not a bit of luck which we have today. Remember Portugal winning the European cup. They will raise their game in subsequent matches.

  • Croatia and Iceland lost 0-2 (Peru) and 0-3(Mexico) respectively. is Peru better than us?
6th world best rated team lost to 54th rated at home. Yet some people here are still lamenting. Lewandowski scored six goals in his last Nine games before yesterday’s match. But yesterday, Apart from the shot Uzoho saved with d prick and one other shot, can anybody remind me of another brilliant play from the striker? Yet we don’t have good defence. Apart from the ball balogun cleared, the game was balanced before our goal. It was after d goal that Joel got substituted that the game shifted their way. I support people clamouring for another point man. We can’t depend only on ighalo, Musa has lost it and again can anybody noticed 2 different lapses from Omeruo too yesterday?
    Overall….I still believe in rohr.
Yesterday’s match was 1-1 to me and its still a good result away from home against an highly rated team.
