MFM FC coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu has exclusively told Completesportsnigeria.com that five European clubs are still interested in signing Nigeria Professional Football League leading scorer, Stephen Odey, despite his failed move to FC Midtjylland of Denmark.
Odey underwent trials at the Danish club without the approval of the Lagos club, but the issue was resolved and expectation was rife that the scorer of 14 goals in the current NPFL season will sign the dotted lines ahead of next season.
Ilechukwu while speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com Sunday morning, disclosed that there are still interests in his player and denied any wrongdoing in the player's age records which reportedly scuppered any deal from working out at FC Midtjylland.
"Stephen Odey is back to Nigeria. We are happy to receive him back, but I want him to rest for now, so he will not be involved in our State FA Cup final against Spartans. He will rejoin the team soon," Ilechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com.
On the news that broke in the week that there were discrepancies on the age of the player in his international passport and in his international clearance, Ilechukwu unequivocally stated that Odey has done nothing wrong.
"Nothing happened to his age. Odey's age is what is on his passport, No falsification," Ilechukwu asserted.
"I don't really know what happened in Denmark, I wasn't there, but as I'm talking with you now, more than five clubs in Europe still want him. He is that good. The offers are not coming from our rivals in the league here. MFM is one of best teams in Nigeria.
Odey had exclusively told Completesportsnigeria.com on Thursday, hoping to sign for Midtjylland and strike up a good partnership with fellow Nigerian, Paul Onuachu.
