Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu believes his club KAA Gent stand a great chance of winning the Belgian top flight title this season after they qualified for the title play-offs, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Kalu scored a goal and provided an assist as Gent defeated Genk 2-1 in Sunday’s Belgian Juplier League clash to finish fourth in the regular league season.
Gent last won the Belgian League title during the 2014/2015 season and Kalu hopes the Buffaloes can replicate their good form in the play-offs to dethrone Anderlecht, the reigning champions who also qualified for the play-offs.
Gent will be participating in the play-off 1 for the seventh time and the 21-year-old winger who has scored six goals in 24 league games admits the task will be tough.
“I was satisfied. Everything ran smoothly, both for the team and myself,” Kalu who is Gent’s third top scorer told his club’s official website referring to Sunday’s win.
“Hopefully we can continue in this form when the play-off 1 starts. I’m looking forward to the games already and it will be exciting to win the games. It will not be easy, certainly not. But we will give everything.”
Yves Vanderhaeghe’s side will compete alongside Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Standard Liège, Genk and Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Juplier League title.
