In-form Sadiq Umar Ready To Lead Nigeria Attack In Russia

In-form NAC Breda striker Sadiq Umar says he’ll be ready to lead the line for the Super Eagles in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia if he is called upon by Nigeria coach Gernet Rohr.

Umar, 21, has been a revelation since he moved from AS Roma on loan to Dutch Eredivise side NAC Breda in the January transfer window after terminating his loan deal with Torino, where he spent the first half of the season on loan but injuries and fitness issues reduced him to few games.

The Olympic bronze medalist has been in a very impressive form for NAC Breda who are currently 15th in the league table since his move, scoring seven goals and making the Eredivise team of the week four times.

With Nigeria’s heavy reliant on Odion Ighalo as the first choice striker ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Jololo as he is fondly called by friends and teammates said he is ready to do his best for the Super Eagles in an event that he’s given the opportunity in Russia.

“It is always great to represent Nigeria,” he began. “It was a great honour to represent my country for the first time at the Olympics in Brazil and I’ll be ready to give my best again if I’m called up for the World Cup.

“Everyone has to contribute something to the team and you have to assist the team which is the most important thing. But whether I’m called or not I always support Nigeria, from the junior teams to the senior team and even other sports apart from football.”

Sadiq was part of Nigeria’s Under 23 team to the 2016 Olympic games, where he contributed four goals as the team won a Bronze medal.

The tall striker was one of the standout players for Nigeria at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil where he scored four goals in six games as the team won men’s football bronze. He has also been playing a crucial role in NAC Breda’s survival in the Eredivisie.

The former Torino player is blessed with a good height and could be a big threat to opposing defences at set pieces due to his physical prowess if called up to the Super Eagles squad.

This guy is in a club that is 15th on the table of 18-20 teams and he says he is coming to the Super Eagles? Yes any Nigerian has a bragging rights to the Eagles camp but if you truth be told, all the more than 20000 footballers of this our nation will all love to play for Nigeria. My advice to players who are just realising that they can play is to take a pen or biro, write all the already established Eagle’s player of your special wing and do special scrutiny of his present club and country performance and compare with your performance. If not you may be wasting your time. Make a video of your last 10 matches and send it to the coach Gernot Rohr. Just because we want to do well does not mean that we invite all players.

  • @Chima E Samuele your observations are right on point. We have so many strikers of this Nature like paul onuachi, simeon nwankwo,Sadiq umar, fanendo Adi,uchebo forgotten the surname who went to the last world cup. This are all legelege players, apart from uchebo, Sadiq comes last from my picking other.Gernot Rohr would probably go for (3) strikers, ighalo & Iheadache are sure bet to go too Russia leaving the 3 spot open, the question now is who will be the 3 striker, for me i’ll take between Paul or simy?

  • With wat I see o for me 4 goals is no joke on Olympic
. And let d truth be tolded dis guy is better
Dan ihnacho  igalo with his rating per match anytime
Only sia one can attest to dis my submission

If Iheanacho had gone to the Olympics Umar Sadiq would not have scored for goals because Kelechi would have out shined him because before the olympic Iheanacho was had already established himself in the team of Manchester City.Don’t forget that Iheanacho’s goals were instrumental in our qualification for this world cup.He scored against Zambia in Ndula and against Cameroon in Uyo.His goal against Argentina played a big role in the Super Eagles comeback victory last December infact the future of the Super Eagles in the next dispensation rest on the shoulders of Iheanacho and Alex Iwobe.

  • @ dele….not that I’m supporting Iheanacho because he too refuses to grow but always put the leagues where they play their games into consideration. Depay was the best player and d highest goal scorer of the dutch league where sodiq umar currently plays before he came to man utd. After dat nko? Iheanacho is even better than depay when he was in man utd. Let umar come and bench vardy first.

  • How can people compare Dutch league to Chinese league. Even okpotu will shine in china.

Sadiq is the hottest striker now
