Nigerian champions, Enyimba's dream of successfully defending their NPFL title and winning a third CAF Champions League (CCL) title may be affected by discord and infighting among the players, as well as the technical crew, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Peoples Elephant have failed to record a win in their last five games in all competitions, and and they lost 1-0 to Egyptian champions Zamalek in their last game on Sunday.
Completesportsnigeria.com also scooped from a reliable source in the club that most of the old players in the team are not in good terms with head coach of the side, Paul Aigbogun who they claimed has sidelined them, in favour of the new arrivals.
"There is serous tension in the team as some of the old players are not happy with the coach who they accuse of favouring the new arrivals over them," the source revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
"Most of the players who featured regularly for the team last season and contributed immensely to helping the club win a record seventh NPFL title have hardly featured for the team this term.
"They are not really happy with this and most of them don't relate well with the new arrivals.
"Their relationship with the coach is also strained and that is really affecting the performance of the team.
"The club need to do something fast about this issue before it get out of hand. With the quality of players in the team, defending the title should not be a problem.
"But you can't achieve anything when there is bickering and disharmony in the team."
Enyimba currently occupy 9th position in the Nigeria Professional Football League table with 31 points, 11 points behind leaders Wikki Tourists, though they still have two outstanding games to be played.
