Alcacer talks up Atleti threat

Paco Alcacer says Borussia Dortmund will come up against one of Europe’s “elite” teams when they face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Dortmund lead Atleti in Champions League Group A by virtue of a superior goal difference as both teams have won their two games so far.

Spanish striker Alcacer, who spent nine years in La Liga with Valencia, Getafe [on loan] and Barcelona, says BVB will have to be at their best if they are to pick up points in their double-header against Los Colchoneros.

He told Marca: “They are extremely tough to play against, they do not give you any spaces and they are completely aware of what you do and can nullify it.

“It is particularly tough for attackers because they analyse your game and know the best way to stop you from creating chances.

“This is a game against a great team who are in Europe’s elite but we must only think about our own strengths and how we can succeed.

“It is an important test for us and a good marker, we have made a good start in both the league and Champions League but this is the toughest test yet.

“We believe this group is extremely competitive and we want to keep all possibilities open as long as possible, we saw what happened to Atleti last season [when they were eliminated at group stage].”
