Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso says he moved to the club in order to become the best left-back in the world. The Spaniard joined the club in 2016 from Fiorentina and he has since made a huge impression in the top flight for the Blues.
Alonso has made 69 appearances in the Premier League since the switch, scoring 14 goals in the process.
He has been dropped into a deeper role this season under Maurizio Sarri but he has helped Chelsea win their first five league games.
The 27-year-old has scored once and grabbed five assists and he is determined to become the world’s best.
He told Soccer Saturday: “That’s why I came to Chelsea.
“When you come to one of the top teams in the world with some great players, you can fight for that spot and that’s what I try to do. I want to keep improving and to work hard to be one of the best.
“I want to score more goals, I want to give more assists, I want to do more tackles. Everything I can do to help this team is good for the team and good for myself.”
