Chelsea have confirmed that teenage starlet Ethan Ampadu has signed a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge. The versatile recently-turned 18-year-old, who can operate in midfield and defence, has already made seven senior appearances for the Blues since joining from Exeter City in summer 2017 and has subsequently caught the eye of Wales coach Ryan Giggs.
As a result Ampadu featured in friendly matches against France and Panama, before playing a role in Wales’ 4-1 Nations League victory over the Republic of Ireland in Cardiff earlier this month.
And, confirming that he will extend his stay with the Londoners, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said on the club’s website: “Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago.
“In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”
Ampadu added: “I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.”
