Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola is confident his contract talks will end in a positive manner. The 25-year-old came through the ranks at the club and has been a regular between the posts since returning from a successful 2015-16 on loan at Villarreal.
Areola is in the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes and was heavily linked with a move away to Napoli over the summer.
The Parisian stayed put and looks set to continue as number one, despite Gianluigi Buffon’s recent arrival from Juventus.
After making his debut for France away in Germany on Thursday, the custodian’s profile is only rising and he says he is keen to ensure he continues his career playing for his hometown club.
“Discussions [over a new deal] have begun,” Areola told Telefoot. “The season is not over. I have a year left and I hope to be successful.
“The important thing is to play. Playing at home is even better. If I’m allowed to play, why not [stay]?”
