Arnold Backs Mooy For Forward Role

Australia coach Graham Arnold claims Huddersfield’s midfield star Aaron Mooy is better suited to playing in a more attacking role. The 27-year-old has been a key man for the Terriers since he joined from Manchester City on an initial season-long loan in 2016-17 when he scored four goals in 45 Championship appearances as the side won promotion via the play-offs.

Mooy scored another four goals in the Premier League last term, while he is still waiting to get off the mark this season.
He has been used in a deeper playmaker role by coach David Wagner and former Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk also utilised him in a similar position for his country.

However, with Arnold taking charge of Australia following the 2018 World Cup, he sees Mooy more as an attacking player and is looking to use him more in that role going forward.

He told Fox Sports News : “There’s two ways to use him – one is at (No. 6) that Bert did, to start the play and the other way is to put him in the final third where we can use his strengths and his creativity, but also his goal scoring ability.
“Aaron is a fantastic player and to get him in the final third would be great.”
