England wing Chris Ashton is out of Saturday’s Test against Australia with a calf injury and centre Manu Tuilagi remains doubtful.
Ashton has been ruled out of Saturday’s showdown with the Wallabies with the injury sustained in the first half of the 35-15 win against Japan last weekend and he’s expected to be on the sidelines for at least a fortnight.
Ashton only made his return on the international scene against South Africa in this month’s autumn internationals but has now left the England camp, meaning Jack Nowell and Jonny May are likely to start out wide against Australia although recent debutant Joe Cokanasiga is another option for Eddie Jones.
Tuilagi is yet to be ruled out but is still struggling with a troublesome groin strain and will be assessed in the run-up to the Twickenham clash this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Aussies have been affected by a stomach bug, with reports saying 10 members of their travelling party, including players and staff, have been ill.
Among them are full-back Israel Folau and fly-half Bernard Foley, while back-row forward David Pocock has been hampered by a neck injury.
