Barber Hails Ashworth Capture

Chief executive Paul Barber feels recruiting Dan Ashworth as Brighton’s technical director is a huge bonus for the club. Ashworth was appointed as the Football Association’s director of elite development in September 2012 but it was announced this week that he will now serve out a six-month notice period with the FA before joining up with the Seagulls next year.

The 47-year-old is highly regarded in the sport, with England’s age-group teams’ success proving that work put in behind the scenes is starting to bear fruit.

Brighton had been searching for someone to fill the role for a couple of years and finally have their man, with Barber buzzing at the prospect of Ashworth working at the Amex Stadium.

“We are delighted,” he told The Argus. “He is probably one of the most respected and sought after technical directors in world football and he is coming to Brighton and Hove Albion.

“I think that is a massive coup for us and great credit to the club.”
