Barcelona are pursuing a move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt but face a battle as rival clubs are also in the hunt. The 19-year-old is one of the hottest young defenders in Europe and the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Tottenham are also said to be keen to rival Barca on doing a deal with the Dutch side.
Reports in Spain had claimed that Barca were leading the way and had begun negotiations with Ajax, but now Pep Guardiola’s City appear to be in the box seat.

Reports in the Spanish press say that City have stolen a march on their rivals and made an offer of £52million for the youngster.
Whether there is any truth in the story remains to be seen, but it is clear that City are interested in De Ligt and will battle for his services if he is made available.
It is unlikely Ajax will be willing to do a deal in the January window and all interested parties may have to wait until the end of the season, which should give Barca time to put their own case forward.
