Bayliss Hints At Moeen Movement

England coach Trevor Bayliss has hinted Moeen Ali may be moved down the order as he ponders his options for the second Test. The Three Lions kept up their excellent form in Sri Lanka with a crushing victory in the first Test, with the sides set to do it all again in Kandy from next Wednesday.

While a few players enhanced their credentials during the opening salvo, Moeen played two indifferent shots to score 0 and three.

The Worcestershire man has now had five innings at number three, scoring a total of 82 runs, with Bayliss admitting that the left-hander “hasn’t been able to take advantage” of his “few chances” at first down.

It remains to be seen if he does move back to the lower middle-order, with Bayliss hinting he might include all three wicket-keepers in the team – if Jonny Bairstow is fit enough to play – following Ben Foakes’ century in Galle.

“Foakesy obviously showed what a class keeper he is,” he told BBC Sport. “On the other hand I don’t think Jonny has done a lot wrong over the last couple of years. “How we fit everyone in is the big question? Perhaps we can get them all in, three wicket-keepers who are among our best fielders, so that wouldn’t be a problem.”
