Belgium’s Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry will take a five-shot lead into the final round of the World Cup of Golf on Sunday. The young pair were in sensational form on Saturday as they fired a combined nine-under 63 during the fourballs.
Belgium will now start the final round on 19-under, and they have a sizeable lead over their nearest rivals Mexico, Italy and South Korea.
English pair Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter sit in a share of fifth alongside Australia and Sweden, while Scotland and Ireland are two shots further back.
Speaking after their round, Detry admits he and Pieters are loving playing together. “We got off to a slow start again and then took advantage of the par-fives, which got us going,” Detry said. “We’re team-mates and so far it has been working.”
None of the 28 teams involved carded an over-par round on Saturday and they will play foursomes during the final round on Sunday.
