Benassi Targets Europe With Viola

Marco Benassi insists he remains happy at Fiorentina and he is targeting European qualification with the Viola this season. The 24-year-old has been in impressive form throughout the opening months of the season, as he has scored five goals in 11 Serie A appearances to date, already matching his total for the whole of last term.

That has led to speculation that Benassi could be set for a return to Inter Milan, the club where he started his career, during the January transfer window, although he has now come out and dismissed those reports, stating he is very much happy in Florence.

“I have a wonderful relationship with the Fiorentina fans, plus the city is fantastic,” Benassi told Corriere Fiorentino. “Do I want to stay for a long time? I’m in Florence and at Fiorentina thanks to God. Our objective can’t change because of some bad games, for everything we went through last season and the value of the team.”

Qualifying for the Europa League is very much at the forefront of Benassi’s mind this season, and he is confident he can achieve that objective, even though Fiorentina have slipped down to ninth in the standings following a five-game winless run. “We have to do better than last season and go back to Europe,” he added. “Even for the Della Valles, the objective is to improve on what we did last season.”
