Rafael Benitez says no first-team players will be allowed to leave Newcastle United during the remainder of the transfer window. Benitez has been critical over the lack of spending the Magpies have done this summer and he has still yet to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring at the end of the campaign.
Premier League clubs are unable to bring in any more signings after the window closed last Thursday, but players can still join English teams in lower leagues on loan or European sides permanently.
Ciaran Clark and Isaac Hayden have both been linked with moves away from St James’ Park but Benitez says personnel involved in the first team will not be going anywhere.
“We will not allow anyone who is already in the team or part of the squad to go,” he said. “We have some young players who maybe need time on the pitch but that is it. Players that are playing already, we can’t allow anyone to go, because we don’t have too many.
“We have two or three players who are not playing too much and they can go on loan, we are trying to find a good solution for them and for us.”
