Bernardo Excited For United Test

New Brighton signing Bernardo says he is looking forward to Sunday’s home clash against Manchester United. Brazilian full-back Bernardo, who made the switch to the AMEX Stadium this summer from RB Leipzig for £9million, made his debut in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at Watford.

It was a tough test for the 23-year-old as he struggled to get to grips with the English game and he admits he has a lot of learning to do about the style of play in the Premier League.

Next up for the Seagulls is a home clash against the Red Devils and Bernardo, who is expected to keep his starting spot at left-back, is ready to take down the 20-time English champions.

“I’m really excited,” he was quoted as saying by the Argus. “There is a good and a bad part. We want to get some points and it is more difficult to get them against the very powerful clubs.

“But there is a good point also. I’m here because of that, because I want to play against the best clubs, on the highest level.

“We have a good team and we can faze them. In the Premier League every single matchday you see in theory a smaller club beating a bigger one, that’s why football is such an amazing sport.

“It’s not like basketball or other sports where 99 per cent of the time the favourite’s winning. Different things happen. It happened last season and it’s possible.”
