Brighton defender Bernardo has reportedly emerged as a January loan target for a handful of Championship clubs. The Seagulls forked out £9million to sign the Brazil full-back in the summer from RB Leipzig but he has struggled to make any real impact at the AMEX Stadium, with just one Premier League start to his name.

Bernardo’s last league appearance came in the 1-0 victory at Newcastle United on October 20 and he is said to be frustrated at the lack of playing time under manager Chris Hughton.
With opportunities limited, it is thought the 23-year-old could be sent out on loan in the January transfer window and there are no shortages of Championships teams that are interested in a deal.
Automatic-promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough are believed to be keeping an eye on the situation as head coach Tony Pulis looks to bring in some much-needed defensive reinforcements.
With George Friend the only real option at left-back for Boro and Ryan Shotton’s injury on the right-hand side causing an issue, Bernardo would be seen as a great addition as he is able to play in a variety of positions.
