Sporting director Jonas Boldt accepts Leon Bailey will leave Bayer Leverkusen in the future – but it will not be in the January window. The highly-rated 21-year-old Jamaican winger has been heavily linked with a host of top European clubs after an impressive 2017-18 campaign with the Bundesliga outfit, where he scored nine goals to help them finish fifth.
Several Premier League clubs and Italian Serie A side Roma are still thought to be keen on Bailey, who agreed a new deal at Leverkusen in the summer until 2023.
With the new year transfer window less than two months away, there is already speculation emerging that Bailey could be on his way out of the BayArena.
But while Boldt does not expect the youngster to still be at the club in five years’ time, he is adamant he will be staying at least until next summer. “We all know that Leon will eventually go,” Boldt told Bild. “But we have made it clear that a winter change is out of the question. He also knows that he has our backing.”
