Brighton have been tracking talented Chelsea teenager Reece James while the right-back has been impressing on loan at Wigan Athletic.
The Sun on Sunday reported that the Seagulls are eyeing up a summer swoop for the 18-year-old, who they claim could be the subject of a £10m raid.
The reporter behind the story was at Wigan’s 1-0 Championship win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and no doubt spotted Brighton head of recruitment Paul Winstanley at the game, given he used to work for the Latics and still lives in the area.
Albion have been linked to several Wigan players in the past 18 months, with attacker Nick Powell the subject of several bids and Dan Burn signed and then loaned back to the Lancashire club over the summer.
Brighton’s new technical director Dan Ashworth has also been spotted at a Wigan game this season.
The Sun claim James, who has started 12 Championship matches under Paul Cook, is rated highly at Stamford Bridge and that Chelsea will drive a hard bargain in any negotiations.
