Cairney Relishing Fulham Competition

Tom Cairney says he is looking forward to the extra competition for places at Fulham after a busy summer transfer window. The Scotland international, who arrived at Craven Cottage in 2015 from Blackburn Rovers, has been an integral first-team member over the past three seasons and he scored the only goal in the 1-0 Championship play-off final victory over Aston Villa in the previous campaign.

Manager Slavisa Jokanovic was very active in the summer window, adding no fewer than 12 players to his squad, and there is a real fight on for a place in the starting 11 for Saturday’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Cairney, 27, has praised the work done by the club in the recent transfer window and he believes the extra bodies that have arrived will turn out to be a huge positive for the Cottagers across the course of the season.

“You’ve got to give a lot of credit to the owners. They’ve backed us, showed a lot of ambition and they’re right behind us. It’s down to us now to repay them,” he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“You think, ‘wow, it’s even harder to stay in the team,’ but if you want to stay in this league for a long time you need that competition for places, you need quality.”
