Sri Lanka are monitoring skipper Dinesh Chandimal after he suffered a groin injury on day one of the first Test with England. The hosts enjoyed a largely positive first day against Joe Root and co, blitzing the top order before debutant Ben Foakes steadied the ship for the tourists as they finished on 321-8.

However, after the close of play, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed Chandimal had suffered a groin injury midway through the second session, forcing him to leave the field for treatment before returning after tea.
Chandimal failed to finish the session though with Suranga Lakmal taking over the captaincy duties and there are now concerns over his fitness for the remainder of the first Test.
The 28-year-old, who recently missed the Asia Cup due to a finger injury, has not officially been ruled out of the clash but it remains to be seen whether he will take to the field on day two in Galle.
