Sri Lanka have been dealt a big blow after it was confirmed Dinesh Chandimal will miss the Asia Cup due to injury. Chandimal, who is expected to be one of Sri Lanka’s key players at next year’s World Cup, was named in his country’s 16-man squad for the Asia Cup but has been forced to withdraw after failing to recover from a fracture to his right middle finger.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury during a recent domestic T20 tournament and will now have to watch from the sidelines as The Lions go in search of international glory.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella, who was among five standby players, has been named as Chandimal’s replacement and the new man joins the squad in good form.
The 25-year-old, who impressed during the South Africa tour, will be involved with the T20 team for the first time since the tour of Bangladesh back in February this year.
