Cherries Star Rues Missed Opportunity

Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake felt his side deserved to get a result against Manchester United on Saturday. The Cherries took an early lead through Callum Wilson but Anthony Martial grabbed a first half equaliser for United at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth had appeared on course to earn a point until Marcus Rashford struck in injury time, and Ake was left disappointed by the loss. “As a footballer you always want to do better. I think it was a missed opportunity to go even higher,” he told the club website.

“Before the game we were very confident. You could see that in the first half an hour. We went into the game with no fear and tried to play as we did. “I guess we have to take the positives and go to the next game.”

Ake impressed in the Cherries defence but he felt he should have done better with United’s winner.
The Dutchman failed to clear Paul Pogba’s cross before Rashford grabbed the visitors’ second.

He said: “I look at myself for the second goal and that is extra painful. “I should have done much better, it was painful to lose like that in the last minute. “I just misjudged the flight of the ball. I was so disappointed. The whole team defended so well and they gave everything.”
