Cipriani Hit By Gloucester Omission

Gloucester have omitted Danny Cipriani from their squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Pro14 outfit Ulster. The decision has come a day after the 30-year-old fly-half was fined and ordered to pay £250 compensation to a woman police officer after pleading guilty to assault and resisting arrest following an incident at a Jersey nightclub on Wednesday.

Cipriani, who only worked his way back into Eddie Jones’ England squad for the summer tour of South Africa, issued a full apology for his actions.

However, the former Sale Sharks man, who moved to Gloucester from Wasps earlier in the summer, is not in the 31-man squad as the Cherry and Whites continue their preparations for the new Premiership season at Kingspan Park in Ireland this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Rugby Football Union have confirmed that Cipriani has been charged with “conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game”, and his disciplinary hearing will take place next week.

RFU head of discipline David Barnes said: “We have high standards that we expect across the game.”
