City Boss Denies Messi Link

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has denied that he made a move to sign Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi in the summer. Reports in Spain claim that City were prepared to spend up to 250 million euros luring Messi away from the Nou Camp last summer, but they have been denied by the city boss.

Guardiola parted ways with Barcelona in 2012 before heading to Bayern Munich in Germany and and then on to City, where he guided the Sky Blues to Premier League glory last season.

Guardiola says he never asked any of the clubs he managed to try and sign the Argentine superstar and insists he does not want Messi to leave Catalonia. “When I left Barcelona and went to Bayern Munich and Manchester City I never asked Messi to come here,” said Guardiola ahead of City’s game against Southampton on Sunday.

“I never went to both clubs and said I want this player. “I know how important he is for Barcelona. I never made the first step to say I want this player. Never. “I said a thousand times I want him to stay at Barcelona. I want that.”
