Real Betis’ interest in Oleksandr Zinchenko could see Manchester City chiefs try and leverage a deal for the highly-rated Junior Firpo. The Spanish outfit ran out of time last month to complete a £15m transfer for Ukrainian winger Zinchenko, who made it clear he was open to the La Liga switch.
Betis have suggested they will try again in January when Pep Guardiola is also able to reassess the state of his own squad and requirements.
City have been keeping close tabs on Betis’ 22-year-old left-back Firpo, who has a £55m release clause and has also come to the attention of Barcelona this year, while Arsenal have also shown an interest.
That figure is far too high for the Citizens, especially, when they already have £50m France international Benjamin Mendy holding down the regular slot at the Etihad.
The Premier League champions do like what they see of the powerful Dominican, however, and including Zinchenko as a possible makeweight would certainly sweeten the deal for both parties.
Zinchenko also proved last season that he is comfortable playing left-back, having been adapted by Guardiola, meaning Betis would be able to replace Firpo with the minimum of fuss.
