Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan believes his side could again be unstoppable in the fight for the Premier League title. City won the league at a canter last season as they broke multiple records – including most points (100), most wins (32), most goals (106) and highest goal difference (+79).
The holders seemingly face a bigger test this year as both Liverpool and Chelsea have made strong starts and the Citizens are currently second, sandwiched between the Merseysiders and the Blues.
City head to Liverpool at the start of next month and Gundogan says that will provide a test of his side’s title credentials, with the German confident they can overcome any opponent if they continue to play as they did in Saturday’s 5-0 win at Cardiff.
“At the moment it looks like those games against the top clubs will be important,” he told reporters. “We play Liverpool in a couple of weeks so it will be a real test for us at Anfield as they are also getting their points.
“Liverpool is a very strong team and Chelsea are very strong. [Manchester] United just dropped points against Wolves, like we did, so I think Wolves will cause a lot of problems.
“But it’s up to us in the end. We are trying to play like we did [on Saturday] because when we are ready like this our chances of winning games and titles are the highest. So that’s what we try to achieve every game.”
