City Optimistic Over Sterling Future

Etihad insiders are ‘increasingly optimistic’ Raheem Sterling will sign an extension to his contract in the coming weeks. Manchester City chiefs have been trying to tie down the long-term future of the England winger for the last few months, with reports stating he now wants to join midfielder Kevin De Bruyne at the top of their pay scale on £300,000-per-week.

Sterling earns £170,000-per-week at present and City have been trying to work on a compromise figure since the player returned to Manchester last week.
City sources claim progress is being made and the 23-year-old’s agent Aidy Ward is ready to broker a new five-year agreement, with larger bonuses factored in for the England star.

The Citizens are wary of breaking their wage structure and encouraging other members of their squad to start making excessive demands when it comes to future contract negotiations.

Sterling, who scored the opener as Pep Guardiola’s men kicked off their title defence with a 2-0 victory at Arsenal on Sunday, has less than two years left on his deal and knows he is in a very strong bargaining position.
