St Helens coach Justin Holbrook was delighted to see his side get back to winning ways on Thursday night with a win at Wakefield Trinity. The Saints went into the game off the back of two straight defeats and there had been worries that the wheels were coming off at just the wrong time.
But, helped by a brace of tries from Tommy Makinson, along with some tough defending and clinical finishing, they came through and won at a ground they had lost at earlier in the campaign.
“It was a really pleasing result,” Holbrook said. “We knew how hard it was going to be coming here so to come away with a good win was very pleasing.
“It was a good start to the game by both sides and there wasn’t much in it. To go in at half time leading 16-0 was fantastic. It was important for us to start well as we haven’t done that over recent weeks and it has made it hard for us.
“It was good to get some concentration back and be ready to play. To Wakefield’s credit they made it hard for us but in the end I was pleased to come away with a good win.”
