Bath winger Joe Cokanasiga is set for his England debut after being named in the starting XV to take on Japan on Saturday. The Fijian-born flyer has been impressing with his performances at The Rec this season and now has a chance to stake a claim in the England set-up ahead of the 2019 Six Nations campaign.
Cokanasiga is just one new addition in the sweeping changes that head coach Eddie Jones has made following the 16-15 defeat at the hands of New Zealand last time out.
Fellow Bath star Zach Mercer makes his first start in the back-row, while Worcester’s teenage flanker Ted Hill is a surprising inclusion on the Red Rose subs’ bench.
Jones says he is looking forward to taking on his former side and feels the Brave Blossoms will have plenty of tricks up their sleeves when they head to Twickenham this weekend. “We are expecting plenty of energy, aggression and fast ball movement,” he said.
“They will be full of surprises, quick taps, line-outs and plays. They are going to have a bag of magic.” England XV: Daly; Cokanasiga, Nowell, Lozowski, Ashton: Ford, Care; Hepburn, George, Williams, Ewels, Itoje, Lawes, Wilson, Mercer.
Replacements: Hartley, Moon, Sinckler, Hill, Underhill, Wigglesworth, Farrell, Slade.
