Jack Cork believes it will not be long before Joe Hart is recalled to the England squad if he keeps on performing well for Burnley. The 31-year-old shot stopper was drafted in by the Clarets during the summer to cover for injured duo Nick Pope and Tom Heaton, and has so far impressed in his two appearances, keeping successive clean sheets.
Off the pitch, Cork says the former Manchester City man has also been a positive influence in the dressing room, while claiming his performances have shown he has arrived with a point to prove.
Having missed out on England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, Hart is desperate to show he is still good enough to represent the Three Lions and Cork feels he can get back in Gareth Southgate’s plans if he stays on his current path.
“A lot of signings we do here have a point to prove and that is what keeps the squad hungry, keen to impress and prove people wrong. That is what drives the club,” Cork said.
“You have seen it with Tom Heaton and Nick Pope. If you can keep clean sheets like we do it is hard to ignore the goalkeeper when he’s English. If Joe does that and plays well he should get back in the squad.
“He has great experience of the Premier League and Europe and at international level. He is a good personality, a good guy and fits in well with the lads. It seems like a good match for him and the club and hopefully he can impress and keep improving his career.”
