Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa will be absent for at least two weeks due to a hamstring injury. The Spain international picked up the injury in the 3-1 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Los Colchoneros have confirmed the setback without offering a potential return date although it will be at least two weeks before the 29-year-old is able to return to first-team action.
“Diego Costa, who was substituted in the 69th minute against [Club Brugge], underwent a scan on Friday to find out the extent of the injury,” said a statement from Atletico.
“The report given by the club’s medical service says he has suffered an injury in his left hamstring. His time out will be determined by how the injury evolves.”
Costa will definitely miss the visit of Real Betis on Sunday and could also be a doubt for the games against Villarreal and Borussia Dortmund after the international break.
