Curran Looking Ahead To World Cup

England bowler Tom Curran says he will look to use the ODI series in Sri Lanka as preparation for the World Cup next summer. The seamer missed out on playing white ball cricket over the summer due to injury and had to take a watching brief for England’s Test series win against India.

His opportunities to impress are limited with only three ODI series’ pencilled in before the home World Cup in May, and Curran is looking to get back to action in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Dambulla, and is thinking long term.

“It is hard not to look ahead to the World Cup, it is such an exciting period but it is about taking each series as it comes,” he admitted to Sky Sports.

Curran did impress for England in the ODI series against Australia in January and is hoping to use that form as a springboard heading into their latest matches.

“You get time to reflect and set goals,” Curan said. “The five-wicket haul against Australia, it was a ‘right you can do it at this level’ moment.

“When you make your debut at this level obviously there are going to be nerves, it’s about doing it on this stage.
“Now it’s about making it permanent, trying to force my way into the side so that I am one of the first names on the teamsheet.”
