West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena says he has been surprised by the intensity of the Premier League after joining the club in the summer. Despite being new to English football, he has played every minute of the Hammers’ Premier League campaign this season and is a key part of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

The centre-half does admit to finding it tough to settle into the English game in the beginning after moving from Corinthians, but he has forged a good defensive partnership alongside Issa Diop and is enjoying his football.
“The intensity here is bigger, and also it’s possible to play more,” he explained to West Ham’s website. “In South America, the players fall with minimal contact but here it is different.
“But for me, the most different aspect is the intensity. There are great players in every position on the pitch so that’s why I think everything is more intense.
“I struggled a bit in the first weeks after I moved but I think I have adapted already, working day by day, and I feel good about how things are going.”
