Lucas Digne has revealed he was convinced to swap Barcelona for Everton last summer by the words of Toffees boss Marco Silva.
France international Digne brought his two-year stay at the Camp Nou to an end by moving to Goodison Park for a reported £18million fee in August and has quickly established himself as the Toffees’ first-choice left-back.
Digne has featured in 10 of Everton’s 12 Premier League games to date this term and has formed an impressive partnership with Bernard down the left-hand side.
The 25-year-old has now revealed he had not initially planned on joining Everton but was convinced to swap Catalonia for Merseyside by the impassioned pleas of Silva. “I wasn’t really planning to leave Barca and they were not looking to sell me,” Digne told Goal.
“But when I spoke to Everton manager Marco Silva on the phone I got this special feeling. “He really lit a fire inside of me and I thought: ‘Wow! I really want to play for this club and manager.’
“I went to Barca and asked them to please let me go. After a few talks, they accepted, that this was my wish. I am thankful for that because now I feel happy in Everton.”
