Djokovic even had time to stop and assist a spectator who had fainted in the crowd, and although he was nearly broken when play resumed, he served out the match to book his place in the third round, where he will play Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.

Meanwhile both Nadal and world number three Roger Federer will start their campaigns at the tournament today.
Nadal will play fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, who beat Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-4 6-4 while Federer faces Milos Raonic, of Canada, after he beat local favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-7 7-6 7-6 in a hard-fought match.
