Djokovic Wins In Cincinnati

Novak Djokovic has written himself into the history books after beating Roger Federer to claim the Cincinnati Masters. The Serb had finished runner-up at the event on five occasions previously but became the first player to win all nine Masters 1,000 tournaments after overcoming Federer 6-4 6-4.

Having lost the final to Federer on three occasions, Djokovic was clearly delighted to finally win the event and will now be hoping to take his current form into the US Open next week.

“It’s a very special moment,” he said. “It’s the first time I get to stand with a winning trophy in Cincinnati.”

As always Federer was very gracious in defeat and congratulated his opponent on a his win and also for a great career.

“Congratulations to Novak for your amazing effort not just this week, but throughout your whole career, it is an amazing achievement,” he said.

“It’s been a great week, tough on the players but we had a fun time.”
