Doherty Proud Of Wolves’ Start

Matt Doherty says Wolves can be proud of the start they’ve made in the Premier League and has set his sights on beating Burnley next. Wolves have managed one win, two draws and a solitary defeat from their first four games back in the top flight and sit 11th in the early-season table during the current international break.

They have also picked up a win in the Carabao Cup against Sheffield Wednesday so things are looking positive.

Doherty says five points in the Premier League so far is a healthy return, especially as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have hosted champions Manchester City and Everton and had tough trips away at Leicester and West Ham.

“Overall we’ve done well – we won in the cup and we’d lost a game at Leicester we should have won,” he said. “We’ve started the season quite well, two draws, a win and that was really important going into the break.

“Training will be completely different than if we had lost it and it gives us a lot of momentum going into Burnley.”
Doherty had a day to forget against the Foxes last month as he scored an own goal but he’s pleased to have put that behind him after turning in solid displays against City and West Ham.

He added in the Express & Star: “When stuff like that happens against Leicester you sort of question what’s going on. But I got my head down in training, worked hard and just believed I’m able to do it.
“I didn’t let it affect me and I’ve come back and played well these last two games.”
